Microchanneling uses a mechanized stamper to create tiny, clean microchannels in the skin. These tiny pricks stimulate collagen production and increase the rate of serum absorption by 300%. Procell’s micro channeling device uses needles made from wire filaments, small enough to fit into a hair follicle. This minimizes damage to the dermis for faster recovery.

Clients have the option to add a 30-minute course of red LED light therapy ($60) immediately after their treatment, to quicken healing time and to optimize results.

Procell Microchanneling FAQ

What is in the MD microchannel delivery solution a.k.a. Procell Serum?

At FACE, we use the MD Microchannel Delivery Serum. It contains growth factors and anti-aging, pro-healing, and anti-inflammatory ingredients such as TGF-ß3 and IL-1. MD Microchannel Delivery Serum provides faster results with shorter recovery times than the Pro serum.

Ingredients include deionized water, stem cytokines (a proprietary mixture of human bone marrow stem cell-derived growth factors and cytokines), hyaluronic acid, dehydroacetic acid, and benzyl alcohol.

The MD serum contains human bone marrow-derived growth factors in a hyaluronic acid suspension. Both elements occur naturally in the human body. There are no human, animal, or plant cells, DNA, blood, or any other foreign substances. The product has been used safely and effectively for over a decade.

The main powerhouse in Procell serum is Stem Cytokines, which supports cellular renewal. When applied to the skin, the skin mimics the effect of having more stem cells. We lose most of these stem cells as we age. By middle age only a few percent remain compared to our youth and the remaining ones are less robust. The serum has potent regenerating properties to improve skin firmness, elasticity, and tone.

How do stem cells and cytokines work?

Procell creates a biological interaction between damaged cells and healing cytokines. Our bone marrow contains mesenchymal stem cells. These contain DNA hardware to work towards wound healing, fighting disease, and rejuvenating skin. The cells excrete proteins called cytokines, which are like little packages of information.

When the microchannelling creates a small injury in the skin, stem cells report to the area (or, in this case, are applied to the treatment area) to heal. Cell receptors in the injured area connect with the healthy cytokine in the damaged cells. Let the healing begin!

What is the difference between procell microchanneling and microneedling?

The stem cell-derived growth factors that maximize results distinguish the Procell treatment. Procell Microchanneling also uses a stamping technique, less damaging than any other technique.  Procell microchanneling tips are 100% reliable because each tip has a fixed depth.  Microneedling devices with adjustable depths are not always accurate. (Different conditions need different depths of treatment.)

Is microchanneling painful?

Most clients report mild to moderate discomfort. I numb the treatment area before the procedure. You will feel a pin prick sensation, especially over the forehead, cheekbones, and lips. Some clients report the treated skin feels hot and tight after treatment. After the treatment, the skin turns red, fades within the first hour or so, and resolves within 24 hours.

How long does each session last?

Each session usually lasts 40 minutes.

What will my skin look like after the treatment?

When needling is complete the treated skin may feel hot and tight. After the treatment, the skin turns red, fades within the first hour or so, and resolves within 24 hours. Expect a mild sloughing of the treated skin for up to 3 days after treatment. Deeper stamping depths will increase healing time.

Are there add-on treatments for Procell at FACE?

Clients can add a 30-minute course of red LED light therapy ($60) immediately after their treatment.  I recommended it to quicken healing time and optimize results.

The 30-minute red LED light therapy (640 nm, 1 - 6 mm penetration depth) treatment provides extra support for your body to produce collagen, support product penetration, heal, and repair tissue repair. The light therapy produces a biochemical effect in cells that strengthen the mitochondria. The mitochondria are the powerhouse of the cell — the source of the cell’s energy creation. Adenosine triphosphate (ATP) is the energy-carrying molecule of all living things. By increasing the function of the mitochondria using red light therapy, a cell can make more ATP. With more energy, cells can function more efficiently, rejuvenate themselves, and repair damage.

FACE also sells LED light therapy machines for continued home use.

Does process microchanneling have side effects?

Rare side effects include infection and scarring. Short-term side effects are minimal but may include:

  • Cold Sore breakout (if you already have the cold sore virus).  Consult your physician about appropriate prophylactic treatment before a procell microchanneling treatment.

  • Dry Crepey Skin (moisturize, moisturize, moisturize to ease)

  • Itchiness – during healing itching is common and can be uncomfortable. If it seems intolerable seek the advice of a doctor about treatment.

  • Acne Flare up – may occur due to the urge to touch the treated area, especially due to itchiness. Avoiding touching your face!

  • Millia (small, bump-like cysts) may appear, and are transient, resolving in a week or less - don’t pick!

  • Reddening, peeling, scabbing, temporary bruising and temporary discoloration of the skin.

How many treatments will I need and how often?

I recommend microchanneling treatment for skin rejuvenation every 4-6 weeks. Treatment should begin at .25mm or .5mm needle depth, graduating to longer needles as necessary. One could continue this series indefinitely and experience both corrective and anti-aging benefits.

I recommend a series of 6 for general skin. rejuvenation and anti-aging. For scarring and off the face I recommend a series of up to 12 sessions. Quarterly, or at least semi-annual treatment is required to maintain results.

How quickly will I see results?

Results are usually after the second treatment.

Who should not have procell microchanneling?

Procell Microchanneling is a very safe treatment for most people.  Individuals with the below contraindications, however, should not have this treatment.

  • Pregnancy

  • Uncontrolled Diabetes

  • On Accutane or any related acne medication within the last six months

  • Active inflammatory skin conditions (e.g. eczema, psoriasis, infection, rash, or any type of dermatitis at the treatment site)

  • Laser or deep chemical peel that removed the entire epidermis within the last 18 months

  • Recent fillers within the last two weeks

  • Scars in the treatment area that are fewer than 6 months old

Procell Microchanneling Aftercare

Procell Microchanneling aftercare is fairly minimal.

  • For the first hour-and-a-half post-treatment, use a physical barrier, like a hat, between the treatment area and the sun. Afterward, continue to use sunscreen on a daily basis.

  • Expect redness and mild sloughing of the treated skin for up to 5 days after treatment. Deeper channeling depths will prolong the healing period.

  • Moisturize 5 to 10 applications a day to improve results. Trans-epidermal water loss will occur and must be compensated for by additional moisturization. The Procell Cellular Renewal & Healing Accelerator Serums are uniquely designed to help maximize treatment, provide superior moisture, and quicken healing times.

  • Wait until your skin has healed before using active skincare ingredients. Use common sense when adding active ingredients back into your routine. Patch test and go slow, adding one product with actives at a time.

Helpful Hints:

The following are optional additional suggestions to maximize results and get optimal healing. I have found these methods to quicken the healing time significantly.
